BOWLING.
ST. LEONARD’S CLUB. The St. Leonard’s Bowling Club, Hastings, had an auspicious opening yesterday. There was a good muster of the devotees of this popular pastime, the green was perfect, and the general surroundings in harmony" with the rest of the day’s arrangements. Mr. D. Banks, in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr. G. F. Roach, performed the opening ceremony, and extended a hearty" welcome to the visiting bowlers. Mrs. G. F. Roach, the president’s wife, threw up the first bowl, scoring a “toucher” amid the enthusiastic plaudits of those assembled. The members’ wives dispensed afternoon tea, which was greatly appreciated. Great credit is due to the caretaker (Mr. Howard) for the excellence of the green prepared, and for which he was heartily congratulated on all sides. Following are the results of the games : — Lynch, Russell, Thompson, Land, 23; 8. Harris, Williamson, Gunningham, Bull, 15. Steele, Pointun. Dick, J. P. Smith 14 ; Grers, Flowers, Baird, King, 20. B. Brownette, Crabbe, S. Brownette, Woodcock 13; Sorenson, Davis, Cottle, Dodge 16. Watson. C. T. Russell, Harris, Treston, 9; Knight, Alexander, Griffiths, Banks, 21. H. M. Hay, Strang, Hall, Turner, 25; Evans. Monk, Guild, Bear, 16. Dixon, Bannatyne, Clarkson, Lincoln, 9; Garnett, Claridge, R. E. Hay, Hughes, 22. At the conclusion of a pleasant dav’s play, Messrs. Treston and J. P.“ Smith returned thanks on behalf of the visitors, the latter paying special tribute to the excellence of the green, which he said had quite outshone the “daddy" club.” Three cheers for the St. Leonards Club and the ladies terminated a most success! ul day’s pleasure.
