HONOURS CONFERRED ON MR. MASSEY.
Wellington, Oct. 22. A cable was received to-day from Mr. Massey by the secretary of the Cabinet: —The following resolution was passed at the Court of the Common Council of the City of London. —“That the freedom of this City in a suitable gold box be presented to the Right Honourable William Ferguson Massey, Prime Minister of Now Zealand, as a testimony of the appreciation of this Court of the distinguished service he has rendered to the Empire, also as a grateful acknowledgment of the loyal support the Dominion has rendered the Mother Country and the splendid share the New Zealand force has borne with the British Army in the great struggle for freedom and civilization in which this country is engaged. (Signed) Wakefield, Lord Mayor.” The message adds that Cambridge University is conferring the Doctorship of taws on Mr. Massey, also that he is being sworn in as a Privy Councillor on Tuesday, the King presiding.
