A number of Napier anglers left for Taupo on Saturday.

A large umber of people assembled at Cornwall Park. Hastings, yesterday, where the . Town D aD d, under tlie conductorship of Mr. F. Hopkinson, rendered a delightful programme of music. The concert was greatly appreciated. Sydnev Chapman, labourer, (Fernhill), and Alfred Gazley, drover, (Kereru), enlisted for active service at the Hastings Defence Office on Saturday. They will leave for camp by the "mail train on Wednesday morning to join the 22nd Reinforcements.

A large number of pleasure seekens visited the Marine Parade beach at Napier to-day. The sea, however was rather angry and necessitated he hoisting of the red flags. Many who ventured too near the water s edge, were swamped out and forced to retreat near the wall.

Last evening the Napier City Band gave a delightful concert on the Marine Parade in aid of the Salvation Army Self Denial and Field Tent Fund. Hundreds of people enjoyed the music, and many of the visitors to Napier complimented the band on the excellence of its music. The sum of £4 5/- was collected.

On Saturday the stall conducted bv the Napier branch of the Women’s National Reserve did very successful business, the receipts amounting to £33 6/8. Among those who assisted were Mesdames S McLernon, Kelly, Dalgleish; Misses Hill, McCarthy, McLernon, Cato and Beale. Miss Cato was awarded first prize for the best collection of cut flowers.
