AFRICA. MUNITION WORKERS FOR ENGLAND. I (Received 7, 2.30 p.m.) Johannesburg, Aug. 6. The first contingent of volunteers and munition workers has started for England. The public bodies enthusiastically farewelled them. LOST THEIR WAY. \ NONCHALANT ENEMY PATROL. Petrograd, Aug. 6. A curious illustration of the possibilities of modern warfare occurred during the fighting nt Piaseczno, ten miles south of Warsaw. The Austrian patrol lost its way and wandered into the suburbs of Warsaw, i Recognising their helpless position, they sought an opportunity to surrender, but no Russian troops could be found. Finally the patrol enter ed a restaurant and asked that: a messenger should be sent to the nearest Russian troops. Meanwhile they ordered dinner until the con voy arrived and completed the capture.
DELAYED REPORTS. PROTESTS IN LONDON. London, Aug. 6. Protests are made against the delay in publication of Sir lan Hamilton's despatches dated June J2th. Prior to the departure of the. liner Arabic for Liverpool, a quantity’ of dvnamite which was likely to explode at any moment, was discovered. The company refuses to give anv details.
