(Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting was held yesterday. Present : Crs. L. McKay (chairman). H. W ilkie, J. McIntyre. A. Cook. M. Paulsen and L. Glenny. Leave of absence was granted to t'r. Holden on account of illness. CORRESPONDENCE. From Returning Officer notifying election of Mr. A. W. ('ook as repre - sentative of Clinton riding. The chairman welcomed and congratulated Air. Cook on his election. As Mr. ('ook had previously served on the C ouncil ho was a decided acquis it ion. Mr. ( .'ook returned thanks fur the welcome.

From Georgetti and Stewart applying for telephone connection. —To be linked up with the line serving the residences of Messrs Walsh. Stainton and (h'<idxx iti. From Messrs "Hull, Cook ami Fletcher asking permission to erect a telephone line on the Cimnty road. -(lranted.

From District Engineer stating lie will have the railway culvert near Maharakeke station lowered, if the council bear the cost.- Cost to be ascertained.

From Dannovirke County Council asking permission to replace a small bridge on the Norsewood-Takapau road by a concrete culvert. —-The i hairnian ami oveseer l<> examine the bridge.

From G. Laing-Meason, reporting on Wa ipukurau-Gorge bridges.—Re reived.

From Public Works Department, forwarding authority to expend part of the grant for the Waipawa river bridge at i’leteher’s crossing.—Tenders for the construction to be called, returnable at next meeting.

From Te Ante Trust Board, re College road loan and formation work.—The board to be advised that the contractor for formation will resume work in :i fortnight and that authority is being given the clerk to accept offer ami complete arrangements for the Government advances loan of £3.506 at 41 per cent. From F. Allen, complaining that- water from the county road spreads over his property and askingassistance in remedying the matter. — The Land Board to be asked to assist in the work suggested. From Postmaster, complaining of telephone subscribers on the council's party lines leaving receivers off and «.f the despicable practice of listening when others are conversing with each other, with the result that, the current is weakened, necessitating waste of time to the operators in having to repeatedly ring up those wanted.—lt was resolved to call the attention of subscribers to the practice bv circular. < I ENERAL.

The Overseer’s report and recommendations were adopted. Mr. .1. Dawson, engineer for the new bridges over Ireland's and Mangatauri creeks, waited on the council in reference to his application for extra remuneration for the work.— Alter considerable discussion it was decided to grant £’3o over and above the Jo per cent, of cost allowed and to pass a progress payment of £’-200.

Aldntyrc inquired the estimate of cost of willow planling at the north end of W aipuknrau bridge.—The cost was given as about ;tw. He moved that the W’aipukurau Borough and County Councils be asked to contribute to the cost. render:; were received for forming 5G chains on the Onga-W’aipnkurau road, but the acceptance was deterred.
