NEUTRAL NATIONS.

GREECE. AWAITING FAVOURABLE MOMENT London, March 18. A calm feeling has developed in Greece. Diplomats regard the fear of Bulgarian aggression as groundless. Bulgaria, while not prepared to co-operate with the Entente, is unlikely to join the Kaiser. M. Venelos, interviewed, said the Cabinet was in harmony with the Monarch. Until the favourable moment for activity in support of the Allies arrived the King persisted in neutrality. ITALY. AUSTRIA^DISCUSSES CONCESSIONS “TIMBB” and “■YDNXY sun” MBVICI.I (Received 19, 9.0 a.m.) London, March J 8. Rome learns that a council at

concession, to Italy and protested against Prince Von Bulow’s suggestion for surrendering Trentino. They decided that nothing should he conceded unless Italy dealt- directly with Austria. They also considered that concessions to Italy ought to be proportionate to Austria’s territorial gains. ’

THE GENEROUS GERMAN. SACRIFICES HER C’ATSPAW. AN ADJUSTMENT UNLIKELY. [PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] (Recoiled 19, 8.45 a.m.) Rome. March 18. It is reported that Prince von Bulow has given Italy an assurance that Germany is able to overcome ti’ie resistance of Austria and will induce her to cede territory. Germany has given Italy a free hand in South Albania to further her ambitions in the Eastern Mediterranean, pointing out that the marine supremacy there of Great Britain and France will squeeze Italy out. VIEWS OF FRIENDLY ITALIANS. GERMANY*"”NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Supporters of the Triple Entente state that the defeat of the AustroGerman armies is inevitable whether Italy participates in the war or not. At the conclusion of peace separation of Austria ami Hungary is expected, leading to the absorption of the Austrian provinces by Germany, the extension of German dominion to Trieste, which will tnen be for ever lost, to Italy, who will be forced to abandon Avlona and the Aegean Islands. Well informed circles understand that Italy desires territory northeast so as to extend her boundaries to the north end of the Adriatic as far as Fiunie, and including Pola, and also the provinces of Trent, in Trieste, to the Julian Alps, includ ing the provinces of Goritz ami Istria and the Dalmatian Islands. AUSTRIA’S PROPOSALS. Austria is willing to grant territory, including Lake Garda and the town of Riva and the valleys of the Chies and Adige rivers, hut Austria excludes Trent. Austria asks for a large sum jn compensation of her renunciation of territory inhabited by Italians. The difference between Italy’s demands and Austria’s offer is so great that adjustment is unlikely.
