LATE BISHOP GRIMES.

PLACE OF INTERNMENT. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, March 19. , Dean Hills made application for permission to bury the late Bishop Grimes in the Cathedral, which both clergy and iaity consider the greatest visible monument to the late prelate’s years of labour. The application was thought to be only formal, and astonishment has been caused by the reply from the Minister of Internal Affairs that he has no power to grant the request. It was pointed out that three years ago the late Bishop Lenihan, of Auckland, was buried in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Further communication has been sent to the Minister. [Christchurch papers to hand Zast night state it is expected that the body of the late Bishop will arrive in Christchurch on March 24, the day prior to that fixed for the' funeral. Ceremonial arrangements for the ceremony have not yet been concluded, but it is understood that the body will lie in state in the Cathedral on March 24. A solemn requiem mass will be held at the Cathedral on March 25, and it is likely that similar masses will be he.’d in churches throughout the diocese. Bishops from other dioceses will probably be present at the Cathedral ceremony, and one of the Bishops will deliver a panegyric on the deceased prelate. The place of interment will probably be within the precincts of the Cathedral. ]

The effects of the war are making themselves felt very severely in the photographic business. Nearly all the chemicals used by New Zealand photographers have been manufactured in Germany, and the supply is now completely stopped. The result has been that prices have risen by big percentages. Amidol alone has increased 600 per cent in price, while bromide of potassium, which used to cost 3's per ll>.. is now 33,s per lb., an increase of 1000 per cent. A peculiar fact is that a number of the chemicals are cheaper in New Zealand than in England.
