WAIPUKURAU

(OWN CORB.BSPONDXNT.]

The many friends of Air. C. 1* • Alitcliell will be sorry to hear that he is at present confined to his bed with rheumatic fever.

The Rev. Stacc is at present attending the Anglican Synod at Napier. Mr. Edwin Hosking was in JVaipukurau on Wednesday last. Never has the Town Hall been so crowded on the occasion of a picture entertainment as it was on Wednesday evening, many only being able to'find standing room. The pictures shown were a first quality and much enjoyed. The proceeds of the en tertaininent, probably about £l4. are to go to the patriotic and relict fund. At half time the Mayor (Mr. J. Winlove) thanked the proprietor of the Lyceum Pictures for giving the entertainment and also the .large crowd for their attendance. Prior to his leaving the district. Stationkeeper Cronin was given an enthusiastic send-off by the members of the local Fire Brigade and Fire Police Corns. Superintendent Slat ford, on behalf of the brigade, presented Mr. Cronin with a case of pipes as a mark of esteem and good fellowship. During the evening a number of toasts were honoured and several musical items added to the pleasantness of the function. Fifty-eight members have now been duly sworn in as members of the AVainukurau District Rifle Club.
