The “ Daily Chronicle’s ’’ Antwerp correspondent says the Germans made three desperate and unsuccessful attempts on Saturday and Sunday to .capture Fort Wallhem, between Malines and Brussels. On the first night operations with the heaviest artillery covered an infantry attack upon the entrenched Belgians. For a short while the issue was doubtful, but when the defenders of the fort realised the danger they devastated the German hues, and the attacks were finally repulsed with the loss of 1000.

Antwerp, Sept. 2 1. The Germans expelled from Wolverthem all males above 10 years of age. A detachment of German cyclists burned the villages of Tremeloo and Rotsclaer. (These villages are all to the north of Brussels.)
