HAWKE’S BAY AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting cf the Hawke’s Bay Automobile Association was held in the County Council Chambers, Napier, yesterday afternoon, the president (Mr. P. S. McLean) in the chair. Present: Messrs. T. Clarkson, L. C. Rathbone, G. Kelly, Russell Duncan, G. E. Mannering, H. Gascoyne, A. McLean, Captain Todd and Dr. Nairn.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet (published yesterday), the president called attention .to the necessity for the public realising that motor traffic was growing very and would in a very short time, be the only traffic. It was very nectessary, therefore, that motorists should support the association.

Mr. G. E. Mannering seconded the motion. Mr. Rathbone said the local bodies concerned had intimated their willingness to improve the Gorge road provided this association would also make a grant. The Dannevirke Confity Council wer«» ♦l»o«irful to the association for the danger posts, and were willing to repaint them. ' - The president suggested that a •separate association should be formed at Another could be formed, say, at Waipawa, and the Various associations could appoint delegates to confer at a general -meeting frhen necessary. Mr. Rathbone considered the suggestion most excellent, and promised to place it before the motorists in his district. Attention was called to the danger of the Piripiri and Mata hi wi Hill railway crossings, and it was decided to urge the department to erect danger Xsignals or otherwise guard against accidents. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr. McLean asked the meeting to cleet a new president, as he considered it was an advantage to have a man with new ideas. •M. Patullo asked Mr McLean to stand again, as his services as president were indispensable. Mr. Kelly said it would be a calamity of Mr. McLean refused to remain in the position of president. Mr. McLean, at the request of the whole meeting, consented, and was unanimously re-elected.

The election of officers resulted as unctaf:—Vice-presidents, Messrs. R. Douglas McLean and G. Handyside ; hon. treasurer, Mr. G. Kelly; hon. auditor, Mr. J. Parker; committee, Messrs. R. Duncan, J. W. Harding, H. J. Smith. A. D. Brown, C. Duncan, P. Putalld. H. A. Russell, G. E. Mannering, H. Gascoyne, L. C. Rathbone, C. D. Kennedy, and Dr. Henley; delegates to the New Zealand Automobile Union, the president find Messrs. Russell Duncan and Handyside.

The president was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for the valuable services he has rendered on behalf of the association and motorists
