“MANAGED” HOTELS.
LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ COMPLAINT. Auckland. June 4. At the Auckland Licensing Committee meeting to-day. the Licensed Victuallers’ Association complained that certain hotels in the city were conducted by persons having no proprietary interest in them. This was inimical to the proper carrying on of I the trade, and involved unfair competition with licensees having proprietary interests in hotels and handicapped them. Mr. Cutten, S.M.. said the committee could not take any action in the matter, as the committee was purely a judicial body. He allowed Mr. Earl, solicitor, to make a reply to the complaint. Mr. Earl said that there were only four "managed” hotels in Auckland, viz., the City. Central, Waverley and Grand. The matter had been cited as concerning public interest, but the complaint was purely a trade grievance.
