The amount put through the totalisator for the day was £12,451 as against £12,231 for the opening day of the autumn meeting last year. R. Berry was cautioned by the stewards for his handling of Perceler in the Esk Hack Handicap. Alleged inteiference with Labour Day in the Cup was also inquired into but tho stewards, after hearing evidence, that the interference was accidental. In the Sapling Stakes Bertrada just, beat Soltano, but owing to the jockey failing to weigh in with the breastplate Bcrtrailu was disqualified, and the race awarded to Soltano. However, the tccaliiator had paid out a lot of money on ‘ Bertrada ’ and it is said that the club will lose about three hundred pounds. The last race of the day was notable for a sensational run by the champion Bobrikoff. On turning into the straight, Mr. Lowry’s horse was about 89 yards behind the leaders, but he gradually overhauled the opposition and by a magnificent finish., landed the stake by a nn.-row margin.
