TROUBLE AT COTTON MILLS

London, March 11

The operatives in fifteen cotton mills at Oldham have notified that they will cease work in a week owing to the alleged bad spinning of the cotton. The owners of eleven mills have decided to close. RECENT GAS* STRIKE. Sydney, March 11. A development which may obviate the necessity of a special session of Parliament to deal with the gas posif tion has occurred. The companies have written to the Premier stating that tKe men having now resumed work, the companies will not object to cancel that part of the agreement relating to wages, so that the men may comf before a Wages Board without further delay and have the matter settled by the Court or Wages Board. The Secretary of the Gasmen’s Union states that the companies’ decision has been submitted for his consideration and that the arrangement will suit the union, which is in favour of any action to expedite matters.
