CAPSIZE OF A KETCH

[t'ER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Nelson, Nov, 9,

The ketch Matakana capsized during a squall off Riwaka this morning. A noth-wcsi wind was blowing and it veered to the south-west with such suddenness that nothing could be done to avert the accident. The men on board—Trcgida (master) and McNab—had a narrow escape, clinging to the keel for two hours, with the waves breaking over them. Later the dinghy, which sunk when ti.'? ketch capsized, came to the surface, and they were able to secure it. Il was broken and leaking badly, but they managed to effect rough repair* with articles of clothing, and using two planks for paddies they managed to reach Mottieka. A search for the ketch proved unavailing.
