MOTOR CARS COLLIDE.
NARROW ESCAPES
Yesterday afternoon, a collision between two motor-cars took place at what is generally recognised to be one of the worst corners on the Napier hills. Fortunately, the occupants of the cars escaped without receiving any serious personal in-
jury. Dr. Moore was driving down Lincoln road, and was just reaching the corner of Roslyn road when a lad named Stanley Hay came up in a motor-car from his house, and when going round the corner a collision took place, the cars at the time going at a fairly rapid speed. The impact threw Dr. Moore over the front of the car on to the broken machinery, where the cars had met. His escape from serious injury is nothing short of miraculous, and beyond a few slight bruises and a shaking he is all right. As soon as Dr. Moore had seen what had happened to walked to a neighbouring house and attended an urgent case. Mr. Hay escaped without receiving any injury at all. Both cars, however, were very seriously damaged. The front of Dr. Moore’s’ car is bent and twisted ; the dashboard is broken, the bocly of the car split on each side, the axle bent out of shape, and the radiator badly knocked in. Mr. Hay’s car has also suffered, but not to the same extent. In connection with this accident, it may be mentioned that at this junction there is a large, almost triangular piece of road which allows a car coming up the hill to take a wide detour, but, naturally enough, motorists prefer to keep close in, thus entering Lincoln road at an angle. Lincoln road, which is about 15ft from kerb to kerb, does not allow much room for manoeuvring, hence collisions here would seem almost inevitable. A notice board erected in the vicinity calling upon drivers of motor-cars and other vehicles to proceed slowly and take a wide turn when attempting to enter Lincoln road would possibly prevent, in future, such occurrences as the above.
