KING’S THEATRE, HASTINGS. The change of pragramme at the King’s Theatre, Hastings, on Saturday night attracted the usual crowd of pleasure-seekers, who were amply rewarded by the screening of an excellent programme The star film, “ Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” is in every respect a remarkable one. The story is excellently played, and every attention has been paid to the setting, “Lieut. Rose and the Stolen Submarine ” also made a big sensation. Snow scenes as a rule are warmly welcome, and “The Ascent of Mont Blanc,” a beautiful and interesting picture, was no exception. “Bathe’s Gazette ” was also decidedly inter- , esting. A star comedy was a splendid story entitled “ Bertie’s Elopement,” and good comics were “Billy has good legs ” and “ On account of the Laundry Mark. ” EMPIRE PICTURES. The pictures screened at the Empire Theatre, Napier, on Saturday afternoon and evening were excellent, and the large audience that attended on both occasions showed their enthusiasm by loud and prolonged applause. In scenic films the programme left nothing to be desired. “ From Dream to Reality,” “Village and Field Life,” “ Hungary,” and “ Scenes in Bombay ” were perhaps the best, the last film being extremely good. In dramatic representation the programme was splendid. tl The Chorus Girl,” “ Two Highland Lands,” “The Half-breed’s Treachery,” and the ‘ Oath and the Man” being amongst the best. The hum- - ourous pictures drew from the audience shrieks of laughter. Last evening a large audience attended, and a fine series of films suitable for a Sunday concert was shown.
