Mr. Charles Rhodes, local attorney for the Waihi Company, interviewed regarding the drop in the AVaihi shares and the above cabled statement by the “Financial Times,” said there was no justification for any complaint regarding lack of information of development work at the mine. The company published more details concerning the operations of the mine than any concern he knew of. Monthly reports, giving full particulars of work, were handed out, and quarterly reports were issued to shareholders. He knew’ of no other concern that issued quarterly reports. Taking the monthly reports and the annual reports, which contained nothing more than what was in the former, any engineer could, by spending a little time, work out a correct statement of the assays, yields, and everything else useful without going near the mine. He knew this was done in London. The present drop in the quotation cabled, he admitted, was staggering, but he could offer no explanation as to the cause.
