Tuesday, Jan 3. The Ca'edoman gathering yesterday was a grunt success The Colonial Treasurer left here on Sunday evening for Auckland, en route for England. With reference to the lepoited massacre at Waikato, the Independent of this morning publishes the following : To tho Editor of the Independent. Doc. 31, 5 30 p.m. Sir, —The Government has telegraphed news from Auckland r>f the27th hist,, and no mention is made of the reported massacre.
