RETENTION OF THE 18th.
A Telegram, published in another column, informs us that General Chute has decided on taking the responsibility of countermanding the order for the removal of the 2nd Battalion of the 18th Royal Irish from the colony, under the circumstances explained to him by Dr Featherston, pending a reference of the question to the Home Government. Accordingly all contracts for transport, &c, are annulled, and no change will take place in the location of the several companies for the present.
