FEW UNSAFE SHIPS.
Only four ships were detained at British ports during theyear ended Jane SO by reason of defects in hull, equipments, or machinery. One was an iron eteamer, and the others were wooden sailing vessels. Seventeen steamers and four wcodea sailing ships were found unsafe because of overloading or improper loading. Of these twenty, one ships eight were of foreign nationality.
