VETERANS’ HOME.
[>eksb association], Wellington, Friday. Hie Excellency the Gevsrnor will leave for Napier by the express train in the morning. Hie visit to Hawke’s Bay is in connection with the Veterans’ Heme and will involve a* trip ont to Grsenmeadows to inspect the site offered by Mr Nelson. Commenting upon the proposed Tetersns’ Home, the N Z Times says : “ Lord Sanfurly hae shown humane feeling and wise judgment in expressing the opinion that the site ehonld be in close proximity to a large centre of population, so that the veterans should not be out off from personal intercourse with their friends and relatives. It is probable that, in deferenee to this view, tbs committee will be reluctantly compelled to reject the very generous offer of a site at Napier, made some months ago by Mr Nelsen, The ohoios is, in effect, practically limited to an ares of ten miles or so around the cities of Auckland and Wellington respectively, and the determining factor may prove to be the offer ef a suitable piece of ground, either free er os very liberal leasehold conditions.” The following additional subscriptions have besn received towards the Veterans’ Home Fund: -Napier Croquet Ciiib (sale of croquet sets), £2 7s fid; total to date, £274 2s Id.
