RETURNED TROOPERS

[by telegraph.] Auckland, Tuesday. Twenty-two men of the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Contingents, under Captain Drury, together with Sister Cross (Dunedin), of the nursing staff, returned frem South Africa via Sydney by the Eiingamite. ' They sreCaptain Drury (Wellington), Seventh Contingent; Sergeant Keddell (Oamatn), Seventh; Sergeant Beardmete (Nelson), Sixth; FarrierSergeant Shaw (Wellington), Sixth; Privates Cameron (Wellington), Mazzoline (Auckland), Mehrtens (Bangtora), Monk (Dunedin), Watson (Christchurch), Hewitt (Wellington), Dodson (Oamarn), Booth (Oamarn), all of the Sixth; Privates Harrold (Dunedin), Morris (Auckland), BcMwarne (Auckland), Short (Dunedin), Donnelly (Invercargill), Doig (Oamarn), Miller (Christchurch), all of the Seventh; Privates Smith (Auckland), Kitchener’s Sighting Scents; Privates Seed (Donedin). Driver and Conn (Auckland), of the Fifth. The two last-mentioned troopers we time-expired men, the others having been invalided home.

The trooper* were welcomed and entertained bp the Map or at the Council Chambers ttds morning. The members of the Sixth Contingent stoutly deny an; desire on the part of the man to come home at the expiration of six months, and state the mistake arose through members of other doatingenta joining the Sixth and wishing to leave at the end of six months, when their year’s service had expired. The retained men state that the man of both contingents were in excellent health when they left and enjoying their work. All the southerners left by" the Eliugamlta this afternoon.
