M’Quilkin wore charged with cheating at cards, at the Mangatera Hotel, on November 17tb. Eorgeant Stagpoole conducted the case for the prosecution, and Mr Lloyd appeared for the defence. This case was one which emanated from an assault case at the Mangatera Hotel, and which has already been before the Court and disposed of. The evidence was somewhat similar to that at the previous hearing. The evidence of O. Osborne, W. Sobs, and Constable Baker, was also heard for the prosecution. The defence did not call any evidence. After Mr Lloyd for the defence had addressed the Court, the Beach found Troy guilty, and fined him £5, with Court costs ISs, and witnesses expenses -£G 6s, the amount to be paid forthwith, or in default 14 days' imprisonment in Napier gaol. The information against U’Quilkin was dismissed for want of evidence. Bain has fallen plentifully in the Wocdville and Fahiatua districts during the last few weeks, and there is every prospect of abundant summer food.
