PREMIERS AND DELEGATES:

THAT PROPOSED AMENDMENT. Beceived Juno 15, 1 a.m. Melbourne, Thursday. Mr Deakin cabled Mr M'Lean that he was not altogether content with the wording of clause 74, but accepted the beat possible alternative of the bill for the sake of unity. He strongly urges a speedy acceptance, as delay would be very disastrous, and is already causing peril. Mr M'Lean replied informing him of the proposed Premiers' Conference, and a joint cable to Mr Barton. The Tasmanian Premier concurs in cabling to Mr Barton. Sir John Forrest informed Mr M'Lean that Westralia concurred in Mr Chamberlain's original proposal providing appeal to the Privy Council. His Government opposed having anything to do with appeals to the Privy Council (sic) . Brisbane, Thursday. Mr Routlege, acting-Premier, wired to Mr M'Lean strongly supporting the conference' of Premiers, even if New South Wales stands out. He believes they could agree to a solution of the clause 7*l difficulty, nnd then unanimously ask Sir AY. Lyne to cable to Mr Chamberlain. He thinks he could suggest an amendment which would be a real, and no illusory compromise.
