Beeoived June 15, 1 a.m. London, Jnne 14, Official news haß been reoived that Lord Boberts attacked General Botha on the Ilth beyond Erstefabricken, 13 miles east of Pretoria, Generals French's, Porter's, Dickson's, and Hutton's forces enveloped the enemy's right, and Generals Hamilton's, Broadwood's, Gordon's, Ridley's, and Bruce's forces assailed the left, and General Pole Carew the centre. Much opposition was shown to the columns. General Hamilton's infantry secured the key to the position. All the troops bivouaoked on the ground won. Earl Airlie, commanding the Twelfth Lancers, was amongst the killed. Lieutenant-Colonel Airlie served with : the 10th Eussars in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid, and in the engagement at Futtehabad (medal with clasp). He served in the Soudan expedition in 1884 as adjutant, and was present in the engagement at Temai (medal with clasp, 4th class of the Medjidie and Khedive's star). He accompanied the Nile expedition in 1884-85 as BrigadeMajor, under Sir Herbert Stewart, and waß in the action at Abu Klea., in which he was.slightly wounded ; in the engagement at Abu Klea Wells on the 16th and 17th February, and in the reconnaissance to Metammeh— slightly wounded (twice , mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, two clasps).
