PEACE CELEBRATION.

A meeting of the general committee in Connection with the peace celebration is called for this evening at the Council Chambers, to which ladies are specially invited, as important business is to be

brought forward. The honorary secretary 1 of the tableaux committee in the Post and Telegraph Offices has intimated to 1 the general committee that they intend being represented by the following I tableaux in the procession :— First, lineman on horseback fully equipped for line ] duty; second tableau representing Post-office-Telegraph Department and Telephone Exchange; third, Her Majesty's mails, with uniformed officers in oharge ; fourth, pack horse with mails. The foregoing should prove an interesting and inBtrnotive exhibit. The following letter was received from the very Rev. Dean Grogan yesterday by the secretary, in reply to an invitation to attend a meeting of the local clergy to arrange a thanksgiving service:— "l am in receipt of yonr favor ro peace celebrations, and in reply it iB hardly necessary to say that we are entirely with yon all in the matter, and hope that Providence in Hie infinite meroy may bring abont the •desired boon of peace as soon as possible. When it is deolared we shall do what we can *in celebrating the event. I may mention, however, that to-morrow (Festival of Corpus Christi) being a Holy day of obligation with us, we shall be unable to attend the meeting in the Counoil

Chambers at 10 a.m„ owing to the services taking place at that time. Re singing ' the same hymns,' as you say, it is better to make no arrangements as far as we are concerned, as we expect His Grace the Arohbishop will in due time issue a circular letter as to what we have to do on suoh a memorable event." In our notice yesterday of the proposed arrangements at the Spit in connection with the peace demonstration, we omitted that Mr Wolstenholme and his staff have in preparation a tableau, and also that the Spit Fire Brigade intend making a presentation thoroughly up-to-date.
