DANEVIRKE.
[from our own correspondent.] June 12, 1900. Last evening we had no fewer than three separate corps being drilled — the Dunevirke Kifles in the Parish Hall, the Huia Ladies' Contingent (n Walker's Hall, and the Kuahine Mounted Kifles in the Town Hall. In addition to these a Boys' Khaki Contingent, to take part in the peace demonstration, has been formed, and js in process of being drilled by Sergeant Duley, of the Rifles. Truly there is a military spirit abroad. Hjte Qraoe Archbishop Bedwood opened a weekte' m|ssiop' ip ihp Cajih'olio CJiurbh on Sunday, lyhen hg Dreapheft an ejoque'nj; discourse to a large" and' attentive aiidi; ence. A cordial invitation to all was extended by his Grace, who is highly esteemed amongst his own flock, and is considered one of the most earnest preaohers in the Church. If one half the applications being sent in for the Ngapaeruru sections are from iona fide intending settlers, then it is quite inexplicable to the ordinary lay mind why the Government do not employ more surveyors' or import more if necessary, in ' order to' bring more 'land for settlement into the market as rapidly^as possible. The drawing 'for sections available where so many apply takes the form of a Tattersall's sweep; and a man may be in the'cfilony ior ftUfoti'me yithout being aiioocßßful in acquijiriga seiitloi}.'' ' fha Hunt Club's m'cel tales' place at Victoria ta-nlOtrp,w, finishing at Wood, ville, and as the weat£?t premises to keep fine thgr« should be a 'large field eai good sport. Several changes are (n contemplation in the management of the Danevjrke Co r operative Association, and the chairmanship has now been assumed by Mr W. P. Knight, the Hon. W. C. Smith having resigned in his favor.
