PATANGATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Council held its quarterly meeting to-day (Wednesday). Present — MeEsrs W. White (chairman), Crosse, Saxby, D. Potts, James Speedy, George Hunter, and Beetham Williams, CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with t — Telegrams from the acting-Premier and Colonial Seoretary re holidays and celebrations were received. — On Cr. Hunter's motion it was resolved to give all the Council's employe's a holiday and request other employers to do similarly at peace celebration. The New Zealand Acoident Insurance Company wrote offering to insure at the rate of 4s 6d per cent on wages. — Received. Had been completed. The overdraft at Bank of New Zealand for current year was authorised, and requisite dooument signed. The Eaikora Town Board wrote re water-table clearing contract being done by spade labor as better than ploughing, and that it be let locally. — The Council decided to do the work without the assistanoe of the Board. Napier Harbor Board notified that it consented that the levy, .£2400, should be paid in one sum as formerly, but that 10 per cent would accrue on 14th December. Tamumu Road Board notified its intention to levy a sufficient rate to do all necessary work on the roads and bridges, and asked the Counoil to strike a r.ste only sufficient to pay the riding's share of general expenses, harbor rate, charitable aid, and interest on loan.— Received. Mr John Speedy wrote asking reason for neglecting dangerous state of Beach road, Herbertville.— To be done next summer ; season too far advanced. Mr T. Butler made an application for a refund in regard to .£25 loss he had been put to in constructing groins m Wainui river. — .£l6 granted for extra labor. Mr C. Parker applied for extension of time for completing his contract owing to Maoris who promised teams not doing so, and consequently he had had to buy horses, and had bad weather — Granted, but not to be taken as a precedent. The Chief Surveyor forwarded plans showing surveys and roads on Ngapaeruru block, and suggested amended boundaries between Waipawa and Patangata counties. — Chairman authorised to arrange the matter with Waipawa County Council. EATKS. Notice was given to levy a rate of 1 3-16 th d in Eperaima, Oero, and Patangata ridings, and Jd in Forangahau and Tamumu ridings, payable in one sum on Ist December, 1900. overseer's report. The road overseer's report was read, and the following action resulted : — It was decided to renew the wooden framework supporting the stone breaker at Pukikora. Also new groin 70 feet long at Mr Jameß Speedy's bridge to be erected next summer. The employment of extra hands to make about 3000 square feet of wire netting when the wire is landed was authorised. The owners of horses impounded for trespass on roads to be prosecuted for damages. FINANCE. A resolution reducing the rate of inI terest on loans from 5 to 4J per cent was confirmed. The balance-sheet for the year ended 31st March was adopted, subjeot to audit. MISCELLANEOUS. It was resolved that the point at the junction of Mangaone oreek and Wainui river be protected with trees moored to piles. It was resolved to alter the day of meeting to first Wednesday in the month. The Council went into committee, and it was resolved that the commission allowed for collecting the Harbor Board rates be handed to the County Clerk,
