WELLINGTON FIRE BRIGADE.
[by tblegbajph.] Wellington, Wednesday. The foundation stone of the new central fire brigade station was laid to-day on the site of the Cuba-street extension. The Mayor, in placing the stone in position, said he estimated the cost of the building to be J2BOOO, and referred with pleasure ' to the fact that no extra taxation would be imposed on the ratepayers, as the < rents from the present sites of the fire brigade station would be more than ample to pay .interest on the money bor- ; rowed. At the same time he thought the S fire insurance companies and Government ' should be asked to assist in maintaining the brigade. i
