Kowhai coming down the hill was first over th( stone wall, but over the water juinj Voltigeur was with him, with Kaimate 2( lengths away third. At the old water jumi Kowhai ran off , and although he afterward! negotiated it Voltigeur was left with c 30-lengths' lead of Kaimate. Ascending the hill Voltigeur 11. was 50 yards ahead of Kaimate, with Kowhai fast making uj Mb lost ground, and the old grey was still bowling along in front, and neatlj popping over the stonewall led the field the next round six lengths in front oi Kaimate and Kowhai, but as they once more rounded the bottom turn Kowhai again ran oS at the old water jump. Kaimate was on terms with Voltigeur 11. as they again ascended the hill, and the pair coming down the hill for the last time were locked together, but at the wall into the course Kaimate came to grief, leaving Voltigeur 11. with the race at his meroy, and coming on he won by 15 lengths all out from Nor'-west, who came fast down the hill. Kaimate, who was remounted, was third, and Jim, the only other starter j;o finish, was fourth. Time, 9min 5 3-sth Bs.o, Totfclisator, £2065; dividend, £3 14s.
