Friday, September 1. The House met at 2.30. LEAVE OP ABSENCE. Seven days leave of absence was given to Mr Eawlina and fourteen days to Mr B. G. Wright on account of illness. ■WELLINGTON STREETS. Mr Fisher moved for leave to introduce the Wellington City Streets Bill. A division was called for, the motion being carried by 47 to 16. The bill waa read a first time. BIELROSE GAS BILL. The Melrose tias Bill was introduced and read a firßt time. GOVERNMENT BUSINESS. The Premier moved that for the remainder of the session all Wednesdays be taken for Government business. The proposal was strenously opposed but carried on the voices. SYDNEY MAIL SEUVICE. The House went into committee to consider the proposed terms and conditions of a notice calling tenders for a Lyttel-ton-Wellington-Sydney mail service. A long discussion followed, and Captain Bußßell moved an amendment that the currency of the contract be one year instead of two, which was lost on division by 39 to 19. The House adjourned at 5.30.
