CATHRO FOUND GUILTY.

[bt telegbaph.] Wellington, Friday. The Supreme Court was occupied to-day hearing a charge against W. N. Cathro, solicitor, of Feilding, of having on the 4th February stolen a cheque for .£IOB4 Is 10d, the property of John Prior, solicitor, Feilding, and with having converted the same to his own use. The circumstances briefly are that accused had been for some two and a half years managing and confidential clerk at Feilding for Prior, who entrusted him with a cheque for dEIOSI Is lOd to be paid to Moorhouse and Hadfield, solicitors, Wellington. The cheque was never paid to them, and it was alleged that accused had converted it to his own use. Two juries had previously disagreed on the case. In summing up Sir Robert Stout spoke strongly against the prisoner. After a short retirement the jury returned a verdict of guilty on the fourth count "Of having fraudulently omitted to account for the cheque." He was remanded till Tuesday for sentence.
