THE LATEST POLICE THEORY.

LOOKING FOR ANOTHER BODY. Beceived January 23, 10.50 p.m. Brisbane, Monday. The latest police theory is that after the Gatton murder was committed one of the perpetrators increased his immunity from arrest by shooting his accomplice. Black trackers are vigorously searching for the body. The police authoritatively deny that Michael Murphy was mutilated. Gatton, January 8. Among the many letters received from all parts of Australia are some containing valuable suggestions. It is possible that the work of investigation will be extended so as to cover a larger area during the coming week. A house to bouse inquiry has been in progress for some days past. The police ' were fnrther reinforced yesterday by three officers. The brothers King-, who are experienced bushmen, are now among the number. M'Neil, the brother-in-law of the viotims, who left for Toowoomba on Thursday, returned to Gatton yesterday afternoon. The sensation of Saturday 1 was intensified when it became known in the city that a man about 35, whose name has not transpired, attempted to commit suicide in Queen's Park shortly after moon by shooting himself in the mouth with a revolver. The man is now in the hospital in a critical condition. He is unconscious, and his life is despaired of. Mr Parry Okeden returned from Gatton last night. The Commissioner seems to feel acutely the strictures passed upon the Police Department. He said to-day : "I do not mind criticism, and think it does good. If there is a weak spot, discover it, and condemn, but I think it •would be better to defer any actual condemnation until the present strain is over." The police have not entirely abandoned the theory that the crime was committed by local people.
