NAPIER MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Monday, January 23. [Before Mr A. Turnbull, S.M.] THEM. Charles Edward Wise, lieutenant in the Napier Eifleß, was aharged with having, on or about the 4th July, 1898, committed theft by appropriating to his own use a cheque for .£3 3s, drawn by Major Chicken in favor of G. I. Clarke. Mr Cresswell, who appeared for the accused, put in a plea of guilty, and asked that the case be dealt with summarily. He submitted that this was a case which might well como under the provisions of the First Offenders' Probation Act.
