WELLINGTON FIRE BRIGADE.
Wellington, Saturday. A deputation, consisting of a number of prominent city men, presented Mr Adams, acting-captain of the fire brigade, with a requisition from 300 or 400 citizens asking him to become a candidate for the captaincy, vacated by Captain Kemsley. In reply Mr Adams said the quarters provided were too small. There was no security of tenure, and he thought it would be more beneficial for all if an outsider were selected. Such a man could better carry out the reforms needed than one who, like himself, has been connected with the brigade for so many years.
