ANOTHER COMPANY FRAUD.

Squires, tlra man recently arrested at • Capetown, was charged at the Bow-street ' Police Court, along with Goodman, one of the directors of the Westralian Gold Districts Trading Company, and others arrested some tiwe ago, with conspiring ' to defraud the public (to the extent of one million and a half in conne^on withthe flotation and operations of the .cow^any. Sir Edward Lee, a cine merchant, of Waterloo-place, and Louis H. Goodman, a dentist, appeared .at Bo.w-stre«i(i Police ' CJourt, recently, charged with fraudulent conspiracy in .connection with the West Australian Gold Districts Trading Syndicate, Limited, of which company they •were direotora. It was stated by coupsel ' for the prosecution that the public had been defrauded out of sums amounting to between .£IOO,OOO and .£200,000 in conaiection with the promotion of the company. A detective-inßpector said that when he arrested Goodman, he said, " I have been done j I iajre not had a penny." On Sir ■B. Lee being arrested, he said, "The Government is .quite right to prosecute in such a palpable fraud as this, but I woe not in the fraud." eouwjA t or Goodman said his client had never secaiyed a farthine, and Sir B.
