KAITANGATA COLLIERY DISPUTE.

[by telegraph.] Dunedin, Thursday. The industrial dispute between the Otago Coalminers' Union and the Kaitangata Coal Company came before the Conciliation Board at Kaitangata. Mr Robert Lee, managing director of the New Zealand Colliers' Eailway and Oil Company, represented the company, and Mr G. Smith and others the union. The first question raised was the objection by Mr Lee to matters being gone into as prior to the Ist of August, as he altogether declined to accept responsibility for the .old company. This matter was not finally disposed of before another question cropped up, which proved fatal. The Act of last session requires a vote to •be taken of the union as to proceedings, and this had not been done in connection with the dispute with the new company. He thought ithad been done with respect to the old company. Mr Lee declined to waive the objection, as he said he dosired to meet his men, and the proceedings closed. The miners were to hold a meeting to-night.
