Senator Bacon, in the course of a speech in the Senate, said that Great Britain was eager for the success of American aims in the Philippines, hoping for an American alliance in the event of war over the partition of China. He urged, however, that America's interest centered in America only.'
Senator Hawley said that probably Great Britain, wished to prevent a conflict over the Philippines.
Mr Long regretted that America was unable to send a single ship to Europe, for the reason that a sound international policy would require the North Atlantic squadron at its full strength.
