SAMARITAN HOME.
[by telegraph.] Chmstchurch, Monday. A conference was held to-day between representatives of the present Board of trustees of the Samaritan Home, and representatives of the contributing local bodies, with a view to arriving at a compromise regarding representation on the Board. The position was that the voluntary contributors elected six trustees before the local bodies were made contributors, then the local bodies elected five trustees. The Act provides for nine seats, and there were thus 11 trustees elected. The voluntary contributors contended that until the local bodies had contributed for one year they were not entitled elect representatives, as the Act provides that the basis of representation should rest on the amount contributed during the past financial year, and bo far the Home has had no legal financial year. One trustee has resigned on account of ill-health, and a compromise was effected by which two members who were appointed by contributing bodies will resign, the present Board electing one to fill the vacancy. The balance of representation is thus practically even.
