THE COAL TROUBLE.
CONFERENCE A FAILURE. Bocoivcd December 12, 1 a.m. Sydney, Monday. The conference of lumpers and stevedores wa3 a failure. The masters demanded the unconditional surrender of tho men. At a meeting of the latter to-night the general opinion waa against a strike, and passed a resolution instructing the members to work with anyone who recognised their rules, and also instructed winchmen who are working alongside non-unionists on certain vessels to give 24 hours' notice rescinding their engagements.
