A. curious point In connection with villego setbleaiests was mentioned at a meeting of the Board to-day by the Commissioner, ifow that village settlers are allowed to convert their tenures into lease io perpetuity the question has arisen aa to whether the original restrictions have beea abrogated, especially in regard to residence and allowing women to hold these sections. In Tillage settlements residence was always compulsory, while in lease in perpetuity residence wan only compnlsory for 10 years and under the old tenure women coald nob bold a section, the opposite being the case in regard to lease in perpetnlty. The matter has been submitted to the Lands Department.
