COUNTY COUNCILS CONFERENCE.
Wellington, Saturday. The County Councils Conference which ib was proposed to postpone till the 23rd instant began to-day. The morning's business was formal. LATEX, On the Conference resuming in the afternoon Mr Grimwood B&ld the Premier hid stated that the Local Government Bill would not ue ready before Friday, and he could not give tbe Conference an advance copy of It before its introduction to the Douse. Mr M'Nab moved that with a view to affording local bodies immediate relief the Government be asked to amend the Conutiea Act in the direction of giving those bodies power to borrow money for the purpose nf paying off their overdrafts ; also thnt ns Boon ns Fnoh a body has extinguished ids overdraft it shall not be lawful for ib to incur liabilities of the same description to an amount which exceeds tlio anticipated revenue at that particular period, As all members were not present the debatß was adjnurned. The Cjnferonco will meet ogata on Tuesday.
