COMMITTEE MEETING. .. A committee meeting of the Hawke'a - Bay Jockey Clnb was held yesterday at : the Criterion Hotel. Present— Captain Kussell (chairman), Messrs William Douglas, George Hunter, H. Gaisford, T. H. Lowry, IV, Shrimpton, 6. L. Sunderland, and Hon. J. D. Oimond. COBRBSPONDENCE. The following correspondence was dealt with :— ' Dr. Nairn wrote accepting the position of honorary surgeon to the clnb. Messrs Richardson Bros, wrote advising that they bad forwarded the diamond ordered. A latter from the Town and Suburban Racing Club reported that the jockeys T. Connop and C. Parker were fined £2 and - #£5 respectively for disobedience at the . post. A notice of motion from the Canterbury Jockey Club, that in future all stakes advertised be paid without discount or deduction, was received. At the request of the hsndlcspper the declaration of the weights was postponed natll Tuesday. The Wairoa Racing Club wrote asklug tbat certain owners and horses be placed on the-nnpald forfeit list.— Agreed to. THE APHONY OASE. The Town and Suburban Racing Clnb reported tbat an inquiry had been held into tbe rnonlng of Aphony in tbe Queen'a Birthday Handicap, tho protest . being dismissed. The following letter was received from Mr A. Portland anent the protest :— Hastings, June 6th, 1895. F. D. LnoMo, JBsq., Hastings.— Dear Sir,— Owing to the severe consuro passed upon me by the steward!! of the Town and Suburban Booing Club on the 21th May, with regard to my horse Aphony's running, and whiob I can prove to be most unjustifiable, I respeotfullyask that a searching inquiry by your committee be held, and I be given an opportunity to refute the unjustifiable and uncalled for stricture placed upon me by tho stewards of this olnb. I wish it to be clearly understood that I am In no way prompted in asking for this inquiry by the emanations from sporting agitators which have appeared In theft-ess, but simply in the interest of my trainer and jockey, in whom I have implicit confidence. Trusting this request will be favorably entertained by yonr committee. — Yonrs faithfully, A. Portland. P.S —I forgot to mention the stewards de- . tided this case without calling npon me to ' give my evidence, whioh as owner, I submit, . I was entitled to be heard.— A. Portland. It was reaalved tbat a reply be sent to Mr A. Portland stating' that under Rule 131 this committee has no jurisdiction. MISCELLANEOUS. The trsia time-table was discussed and approved, with the exception that Mr Plloher was to be aßked to run the south train at i2O p.m. from Napier, leaving raceoourse at 6 8 p.m. It was resolved that in accordance with previous decisions the gelding Boomerang could start as a maiden. Edward Ball, apprentice to A. Elling* ham, was awarded £2 10 j as assistance la consequence of an accident. The same steeplechase coarse as last year waa agreed to. The conditions of the Hawke'a Bay Stakes,- ot 500 soys, to be run at the antnmn meetiog, 1897, were agreed to, the only difference being that the distance waa altered from 6to 6J furlongs. Nominations for this event for present foals and yearlings will close next monbb. The* folio wing owners' permits were granted: — Messrs H. H. Jackson. * Leenard Sul). Walter Hutton, and H. White. A. Wood was granted a trainer's and jockey's license, and the following gentlemen riders were elected -.—Messrs W. 6. Cooper, A. K. Howard, Harry Lansdown, Edward Oakentell, Hector Speedy, and William Kobson. The committee then adjourned.
