This offer Mr Eddy has decided to accept. Owing to floods beyond Newcastle the railway commnnlaatlon with Queensland Is Interrupted. , Heavy easterly gales are raging alone; the coast, and are accompanied by exceptionally heavy rain. It Is feared In the Newcastle district thai) there will be a repetition of the floods of 1893. The northern rivers are rising with alarming rapidity, and boats are being prepared In expectation of a heavy flood. Most of the farms in the West Maitland district are already inundated. Mr Alfred Bennett has sold his quarter share in the Evening News newspaper to his brothers and sister for etween £80,000 and £90,000, The Seamen's Conference is at present obiefly engaged in considering the balancesheets of the unions in the various colonies. The finances of the unions in New South Wales, Victoria, and Sauth Australia are in . fair condition, but the unions in New Zealand and -Queensland are in such a position that it is proposed to send organisers to both these colonies.
