MEETING OF FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
A meeting of delegates from the friendly sooletiea in Napier was held last evening in the lodgn room of the Napier Oddfellows, Mr J. B. Fielder in the chair. It was resolved that an association be formed far the object) of consultation for tiie common welfare of all friendly societies in Hawko's Bay; to discuss questions of general interest to them, and if occasion should require it, to make recommendations to the various governing bodies, bnt that id should not hnvo power to pass any resolution that would bind any society nnless such resolutions were adopted by tho society. The name decided npon was " The Hawke's Bay Friendly Societies Association," to consist of two deputies from each society in Hawke's Bay. the expenses of management* will be small the fee was fixed at 10s 6d for each society or governing body. It was decided thud all offices should be honorary. Rules were passed, to be sent to each society for their information. Sufficient copies will be . provided to enable n copy to be sent to each branch of the respective Order. The chairman read replies to correspondence he had received on tho subject of vigilance committees from several parts of this colony and also from Sydney and Melbonrne. It was decided that the next meeting of the association be held next month, and the chairman was requested to act as secretary pro tern., pending tbe appointment of office™ at the adjourned meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Fielder for calling the meeting, and the trouble be bad taken in acquiring information leading to the establishment of the association. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
