THE GOURLAY-STOKES COMPANY.
The Gonrlay and Stokes Company commence a short season this evening at tho Theatre Royal. Tbe programme which will be submitted will consist of " The Rehearsal " (a mnolcal comical prelude) and " That Awful Girl " (a whimsical farcical comedietta). The GonrlayStokes company when in Wellington played by vice-regal command at Government House before his Excellency tbe Governor (who expressed bid satisfaction by letter), tbe Countess of Glasgow, and some 500 of their guests. Miss Amy Gourlay and Mr William Gouriay are tbe youngest children of the lute Mr William Gonrlay, whom old playgoers in this town will recollect in " Mrs M'Gregor's Levee " come 20 yeira ngo. Theit elder brother, Mr John Gonrlay, was here about 15 months ago playing " Skipped by the Light of tho Moon " with tbe Gourlay and Walton Company. Mies Amy Gonrlay, who lifts played with the Williamson and Masgrove and the Brough and Boncicnnlt companies, has made a great reputation for herself in Australia as a comedienne, actress, singer, and danseuae. Mr William Gourluy has deservedly made a great name for himself as a comedian, singer, eccentric dancer, and character impersonator. The company Includes another comedian, Mr Morton Prior, who as a serio-comic artist comes to New Zealand with a great reputation. In Mr Axel Newton the company possesses a musician of great merit. The performances of the company are described by onr Auckland and Wellington contemporaries as being very clever, amusing, and artistic, and they should nave crowded houses during their short stay here.
