At tho annual meeting of householders about iifty persons wero present. Captain Russell, M.H.R., was voted to the chair. The committee's report was to the following effect : — Fourteen committee meetings have been held during the year, at which the attendance has been as follows : Mr C. A. Fitzßoy 13, Mr D. A. Wright 11, Mr J. Garnett 12, Mr W. A. Beeoroft 14, Mr W. C. Maddison 14, Mr \V. Bellby 13, Mr P. L. Scott 3, Mr J. Robertson 7. Mr Scott resigned on the 4tb September last, and Mr Robertson was elected by the corumittoe to Gil the vacancy. The attendance of enrolled pupils since lust annual meeting showed a satisfactory increase, and it would have been higher bat for tbe prevalence of whooping cough. Numerous changes had taken place in th« utaff during the year. Mr Martin assumed the position of second matter on tbe 20th April, 1891, and bad satisfactorily performed tbo duties of the position xincn that date. The Misses Rotioh, Stcvenx, and George had been appointed pupilteachers in the plaoa of tbo above-men-tioned teachers resigned. At the annual standard Examination the pupil-teacher Miss King passed Class E. and received honorable mention in history and science. Mhs Caugbley passed Class E. and received honorable mention in arithmetic and geography. In the Hawke's Biy education, district four candidates received the honor of special mention at the certificate examination, thtee of these being from the Hastings school. Shortly after taking office the committee determined on the abolition of stationery fees. Might years ago the school occupied the undignified pn.-itiou of being the thirty-fourth out of tliirly-seven schools. Two years after Mr Smith assumed office it occupied the third position : and it was now, jii'iging by the scholarships and the passes of pupilteachers, "tho premier school" in the eduoational district of Hawke's Bay. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following were elected as the new school committee:— Captain Russell, and Messrs S. Tong, W. C. Maddison, M'Qulllan, S. Bpence, J. Fritebley, C. Britton, A. C. Webber, and F. Cook. Captain Russell, in proposing a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Beilby, retiring secretary, said tbst it was no mere form of words, but genuine appreciation of bis services. The vote was passed ncm. con. The committee then held their first mooting, when Mr Tong proposed and Mr Cook seconded, that' Captain Russell be chairman for the ensuing year, which was carried, Mr Cook was elected secretary. It was resolved that the meatings of the committee should be held in the school on tbe first Friday in each month, at 8 p.m, The committee then adjourned.
