The following risks were held on the principal buildings :-New Zealand Insurance Company, £23,300; South British, £4500; National, £20 00. The damage to the buildings is estimated at £300,000, and to the stocks at £500,000. Attached to counsel's opinion to the shearers on the question of wages liability was a private recommendation advising mat to loyalty to the union and instice to the sheepowuers the men should carry out theircoutraefs. Influenced bvthisopinion the Labor Defence Committee decided unanimously that the shearers shonld return to work. It was felt that this would be a politic step, and might pave the way to a general conference. Work will accordingly be resumed to-day. Received October S, 10,40 a.tn.) A number of miners belonging to the the southern collieries have been fined for breach of agreement. * (Received October 3, 7.20 p.tm) 1 The secretary of the Shearers' Union states that the order issued for the men to return to work will only affect 5000 shearers whe have contract engagements to fulfil. The following are the current quotations for the principal Broken Hill silver raining shares :— Proprietary, £12 14s ; British, £2 16s : Central, £6 10a; North, £1 8s ; South, £4 3s ; Block 14, £15 6s ; Block 10, £13 19s ; Junctions, £2 14s.
