* LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Wednesday, November 30. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. BILLS PASSED. The Methodist Church Property Bill was passed through its final stages. QUESTIONS. Sir Frederick Whitaker, in reply to Mr Shrimski, said that there was no truth in the rumor that the Government intended to provide work for the unemployed in Auckland in making carriage drives. MrStevens, replying to Mr Waterhouse, said the Government intended bringing in a measure this session to give relief to tenants of the Crown and public bodies. . BILLS. The Slaughterhouses Bill, the New Plymouth Borough and Harbor Board Bill, and the Oamaru Harbor Board Loan Bill were read a second time. A division was callad for on the latter by Mr Campboll, the result being that the second reading was carried by 28 to 3. The New Plymouth Racecourse and Reserves Bill went through committee without amendment and passed its final stages. THE MIDLAND EAILWAY. The adjourned debate on the Midland 1 Railway Company's revised contract was resumed. After some discussion Mr 1 Waterhouse withdrew his amendment at ; the request of Bir Frederick Whitaker, who proposed to meet the views of the ■ supporters of the amendment for the appointment of a select committee by ' amending clause 3. ; Dr. Menzies moved the adjournment of the debate till next day, which was agreed to, and the Council adjourned at 5 o'clock ' to the following day.
