[PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. | Auckland, Wednesday. Mr W. H. Dixou, secretary ot the Auckland Rugby Football Union, has received a letter from Mr J. Lilly white, who is at present iv Sydney, intimating his intention of organising a football team of leading Rugby players in England for an Australian and Now Zealand tour next season. The Union meet to-morrow to consider the subject. The first wool sale of the season was held to-day, 384 bales being catalogued.. The auctioneers had decided to hold their sales all on the same day, in order to encourage competition from the South, (is the buyers here objected to pay the charge of 2s 6d per bale imposed for delivery, but the auctioneers, without any explanation of their change of front, agreed at the 4asb moment to waive the charge for delivery, and the dispute, which has continued for some time, has thus ended in a triumph for tlio buyers. The prices obtained equalled those of last year, and for some varieties were higher. The auctions were held by Messrs A. Buckland and Messrs Hunter and Nolan, Mr G, W. Binney postponing his sale till tomorrow. Mr W. Morgan was elected Mayor of Newmarket to-day, and Dr. W. R. Erson Mayor of Onehuuga. Taukaxga, Wednesday. At the regatta to-day the whaleboat race was competed for by four crews, and was won by a Maori crew. A canoe race took place between two crews— one_ of natives and one of Europeans, the natives wiuninp;. In an open sailing race, keel or centre-board boats, eight competed, J. Snodgrass's (Joz being first and Mrs Cairrrs Myrtle second. It was a very closo race between these two boats, the Myrtle having led a great part of the distance. The yacht race was won easily by J. Brain's Arrow, with Dr. Mail's Dollie second. The Robroy canoe race was won by Mr Lundon. The wind freshened up a little in the afternoon, but the regatta was very successful throughout. At the Mayoral election to-day Mr Joseph Petrie, the present Mayor, polled 208 ; and Mr Joseph Kilgour, a former Mayor, 140 majority, 68; The tug Westland, which lias been purchased by the Harbor Board, will be formally taken over to-morrow, Mrs Kilner was found drowned to-day in a tub of water. As she was subject to fits it is supposed that she fell in while in a fit. Eoss, Wednesday. Constable Williams has not yet returned from his search for the missing woman, Mrs Russell. Hokitika, Wednesday. At the mayoral elections to-day Mr Holmes was elected for Hokitika, Mr Barger for Kumara, and Mr Currie for Koss. Cheistchuech, Wednesday. The mayoral elections to-day resulted as follows : — Sydenham : Mr W. Langdown, 369; Mr W. K. Bowden, 154. St. Albans: Mr E. Salter, 172; Mr W. J. Neat, 171. Lyttelton: Mr S. K. Webb, 181 ; Mr J. Melton, 130. Dunedin, Wednesday. A young man named John Fergusson, 21 years of age, was drowned at Green Island beach to-day. Mr G-ourley was to-day elected Mayor of St. Kilda; Mr M. Sullivan; South Dunedin ; and Mr S. Myers, North East Valiey.
